11/30/13 – 12 miles

I changed up my pre-run snack this morning- had a banana & a handful of almonds. I brought along a bottle of Powerade, but no Shot Bloks. The run went well. I counted seven other runners out today, including the “See you at the races” guy, who was running this morning. That’s the first time I’ve seen that. It was 59 degrees out when I started, so that was great. Anything below 60 degrees is all right with me. 52 days until the marathon.


11/29/13 – day off

This seems to be a trend- only going to the gym once a week. Well, I really should go on my scheduled days, Mondays & Fridays. I pay a monthly fee to belong, so I may as well go as much as I can. Hopefully, I’ll begin to go more. 53 days until the marathon.

11/28/13 – 5 miles

How can you tell if you’re serious about your training? You run 5 miles on Thanksgiving morning. I saw a number of people out walking (among them was the heavy-set guy who I see often, carrying one of those huge cups of soda from Circle K, as well as the guy who always says “See you at the races” when I pass him), and some on bicycles, but no one else dumb enough to be running. My thermometer read 46 degrees, but it felt much colder with the wind. It was long sleeved shirt, gloves & hat weather. 54 days until the marathon.

11/27/13 – 8 miles

It was mid-60’s and breezy this morning, so the eight miles wasn’t too bad. After the run it was off to breakfast at First Watch. Not too bad. 55 days until the marathon.

11/26/13 – 4 miles

It was just raining lightly this morning, with a temperature of 69 degrees. Not too bad. It’s supposed to be 66 degrees and cloudy tomorrow morning. At least I can sleep in, since I’m done with work for the week. 56 days until the marathon.

11/25/13 – gym day

Got up too early, went to the gym, went home, showered & ate, then went to work. Oh, and I guess I got dressed somewhere in there. The temperatures are starting to get cooler now, which should make running nicer this week. 57 days until the marathon.

11/24/13 – day off

Today will be a well-earned day off. After the 16 mile run yesterday, I stood for two hours in a Christmas store, to meet four “stars” from the holiday cult classic, “A Christmas Story”. Then it was grocery shopping, and setting up our Christmas tree (it’s not decorated yet). After all of that, I stayed up really late to watch the Manny Pacquiao fight. Manny looked good. Now all I need is for the Bucs to win again. That may be a tall order. 58 days until the marathon.

11/23/13 – 16 miles

At least it didn’t rain today, like it did last Saturday. I stuck to my pre-race snack today, just substituted peanut butter for almond butter. I may add more food to this, as I believe it makes a difference in my performance.

The grind of this training is starting to get to me. I still have seven more weeks of this to go. We’ll see what happens after the marathon, but I’m beginning to think that I may not be up to many (any?) more marathon training periods like this one. I’m trying to stay positive about it all, but it’s getting difficult to do that. But no matter what, I still put in the miles, four days a week. 58 days until the marathon.

11/22/13 – day off

Another Friday, another day to skip the gym. I seem to have lost all enthusiasm for that place. It’s just so easy to stay home & sleep in (well, a little bit, anyway), something I would never think of doing on a running day. 59 days until the marathon.

11/21/13 – 4 miles

Another balmy morning. I enjoyed the four miles, knowing that I’ll be running sixteen miles on Saturday. Wonder if I’ll go to the gym in the morning? I haven’t decided yet. 60 days until the marathon.
